Louis returned to consciousness and to the knowledge that his head throbbed painfully. He staggered slowly to his feet and passed his hand dazedly across his eyes. The recollection of having been set upon by some three or four ruffians was all that remained to him of the affair. He looked around the room. It was richly, even luxuriously, furnished.
